San Diegans over 50. San Diegans over 50 is all about singles and couples safely socializing around the Western part of San Diego County. Our meetup began with a small group of single women friends in Pacific Beach, then expanded to singles organized by a male Navy chief, who expanded membership to both men and women.

Two more organizers expanded us to include a broader range of San Diego County territory, which spanned La Mesa on the East to Del Mar on the North and all around the City of San Diego. I am the 5th organizer and am expanding our membership to include socially active singles, widowed, couples, and married adults over 50 who need to get out and socialize. When you apply for membership, please post a portrait so we can recognize you at our meetups. And for your name, please use your first name followed by an single letter, for example, if your name is Joe and your last name is Smith, then you could post your name as Joe S. Or, if you wish to remain mysterious, Joe X. We want to keep you safe. The reason we collect membership dues is to pay Meetup.com to use this platform to announce meetups. The organizer (me) has to pay at least $150 every year to Meetup.com. I also buy door prizes, name tags, pens, and take the time to call venues, cut deals with the management, and evaluate parking for our members. To share in the expense of running the meetup, I ask each of you to pay $5.00 dues to remain a member. If you object to Meetup.com auto deducting $5 from your checking account, put $5.00 in an envelope, seal the flap, write your name on the outside of the envelope, and hand it to me. Thank you all for joining San Diegans Over 50! Your Organizer, Ron May. Upcoming events (3) Come Dance with your friends at Tio Leo's nightclub to the tunes of Sue Palmer & Her Motel Swing Band! Plan to arrive at 5:30 to secure a table, have a meal or drink and socialize with friends. Sue Palmer is an award-winning jazz and boogie-woogie piano player backed up by electric guitars, drums, and brass. This is just a really fun band that always attracts a fun group of people. Swing or Free Style, you will have a fun time. No name tags or door prizes for this event. There is a $12 cover charge and the doorman will hand out wrist bands. You can actually continue dancing after the meetup ends, as the band will play to around 10 pm. Thu, Jul 17, 2025, 7:00 PM PDT From Lomaland to Sunset Cliffs - Ocean Beach Historical Society Lecture. Come hear Ron May's Power Point Lecture to the Ocean Beach Historical Society on From Lomaland to the Mediterranean Riviera- The Story of Sunset Cliffs and Neighboring Housing Projects on Point Loma." Members of San Diegans Over 50 are invited to sit with the Ocean Beach Historical Society at The Water's Edge Community Center, 1984 Sunset Cliff Boulevard to learn how real estate promoters transformed the slopes of Point Loma into what we see today. Attendance is free, but I recommend a donation tossed into the big blue vase to support the Ocean Beach Historical Society. Parking is throughout the neighborhood. Fri, Jul 18, 2025, 5:00 PM PDT Tiki South Pacific Theme Social Gathering at the Barefoot Bar on Mission Bay. The 4th Annual Tiki South Pacific theme social gathering at the Barefoot Bar on Paradise Point on Mission Bay is scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The establishment does not allow for me to reserve a table, so plan to come early and help try to secure those tall tables to the right of the bar. Wear Islander Hawaiian or colorful shirts and hats, muumuus, tiki pendants and plan to have a really fun afternoon. I will hand out name tags and free door prize tickets. You can order a plate of food or drinks, but please everyone order at least something to keep the manager happy with us. Before you leave, please walk over the bridge to see the large ocean fish that live in the sea water pool adjacent to the Barefoot Bar.
